RVA COMPRESSORS: HIGH-PERFORMING, COMPACT, CUSTOMIZABLE.

Written by Ing. Enea Mattei S.p.A. | 21 July 2022

Walter Jaguttis has a solid mechanical background and a proven track record in the compressed air industry, particularly in the OEM sector. Since 2020, he has been responsible for Mattei's Air-Ends division and will be our expert guide to understanding the levers of the division's success, the current state of affairs, and in what areas we expect more growth.

Mattei's solutions for the OEM sector are the RVA and the RVAC family of compressors. These compressors are successfully used in a number of industrial applications due to their rotary vane technology. The integrated design of the RVA and RVAC range allows multiple drives: electric motors, hydraulic motors, endothermic motors, or through power take-offs.
"The industry is growing," Jaguttis explains, "from 2020 to today, we have seen a 40 % increase.

We have seen internal growth in the care and attention to project monitoring that we now follow step by step. This has also been achieved thanks to the Order-to-Engineering process (ETO) that allows us to accurately track the timing and development of each project and the internal CRM system that allows us to monitor the different teams involved. Our sector is historically important to the company and will remain so in the future."

Vane technology ensures the production of high-quality compressed air, extremely compact compressor unit dimensions, low noise levels, and fully customizable solutions suitable for different sectors. In addition, RVA compressors are perfect for any application requiring on-site air: construction, earthmoving, drilling, blasting, quarrying, and other applications.

"The most significant sectors for us are firefighting vehicles, asphalt sealing machines (joint sealing machines), suction excavators, road marking machines, etc., where the level of customization is high. We can install different sizes and configurations of compressors and meet every kind and quantity of demand, thanks to our range, from a few units to hundreds per year. Our compressors are easy to install, and it is easy for the customer to interface with us. In the past, we were only involved in the supply of compressors, but today, we are involved in the entire project, including integration with electric and mechanical motor components. Our division is able to follow all the design phases of a plant in which a compressor is installed from start to finish, and is able to offer all the technical information necessary to customers. Even when the project is particularly complex, our engineering division manages to achieve excellent results. Moreover, this is a competitive advantage for Mattei."

The division's ability to take a global view of projects, as well as its manufacturing and logistics expertise, add to the technical features of compressors that offer quality, consistent performance. They can operate in the harshest climatic conditions and are made of materials not subject to thermal expansion or scratching and corrosion.

"Among the most significant projects is one for the world market. We are designing a compressor to be installed on a machine that covers the interior surfaces of tunnels with cement for a leading company in the industry. The project involves a total of about 60 55 kW RVA compressors. This is an exciting project because it involves an international team: the customer is based in Finland but manufactures in India, and on our end, the engineering team is in Italy, the division coordination is in Germany, and the business development manager is in Singapore. We have already delivered two units, and this is an important project with associated engineering issues which we have discussed extensively with our CEO Giulio Contaldi. We are proud to work on a project that involves so many countries. I think it is an interesting case, because we have also supplied compressors to China, Japan and Italy for the same sector."
An interesting fact concerns the reliability of the compressors built for this sector "they are very reliable machines, designed to work in harsh environments and under extreme conditions," Jaguttis confirms.

How the division approaches new markets is extremely interesting. "For about a year and a half, we have been engaged in assessing what applications and markets in which we were successful, such as the asphalt sealing machine sector in the U.S. and Europe, which is a really interesting application for Mattei. In markets where we are not present, we research the sectors in which compressed air can be used, propose our application/solution, and if it is interesting for the customer, we proceed with the quotation. It is a system that has brought results."

"The most promising markets are Europe and North America, followed by China with huge potential in the future," Jaguttis concludes.
