MATTEI: AN IMPORTANT PARTNERSHIP IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY

Written by Ing. Enea Mattei S.p.A. | 6 May 2026

The plant, located in north-eastern France, employs several hundred people and represents a benchmark in the industry, both in terms of production and innovation.

The group was already familiar with Mattei Group as a global leader in the design and manufacture of rotary vane compressors, an exclusive technology developed and patented by the Italian company, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and operational continuity even in the most critical industrial processes.

The choice of Mattei was driven by its reliability, technical performance, and service continuity—essential elements to meet the client’s industrial requirements. “As highlighted by the Head of Industrial Infrastructure and Utilities, the primary need was to ensure a redundant and reliable compressed air solution capable of handling consumption peaks and improving energy efficiency,” explains Ducloux.

To meet these needs, two Optima 132 compressors were installed—rotary vane compressors equipped with inverters, designed to deliver significant energy savings, stable airflow, and easy integration into the existing system. These features proved crucial in enhancing system performance and ensuring continuous, high-quality operation in compliance with strict food industry regulations regarding hygiene,
safety, and compressed air purity.

An additional key element was the adoption of the Quartetto supervisor, Mattei’s intelligent compressor management system designed to optimize the operation of up to four machines in a synchronized and responsive manner.
Quartetto can manage multiple compressors simultaneously, adapting system response to fluctuations in compressed air demand while reducing overall energy consumption.

This programmable supervisor enabled efficient coordination of the workload across different units, balancing their use and improving overall plant energy efficiency. Its integration allowed for more responsive production management, avoiding unwanted downtime and contributing to a smooth start-up and precise system regulation in full
compliance with operational requirements.
The coordination between Mattei eams and the client’s internal teams ensured that timelines were met, minimizing production impact and guaranteeing efficient commissioning aligned with required standards.

In terms of benefits, the client expects a significant reduction in energy consumption,
improved network pressure stability, and lower maintenance costs.
The system design also allows greater flexibility for future expansion, facilitating
the integration of new equipment.

“The relationship between the client and Mattei is evolving into a long-term collaboration, particularly in energy optimization and utilities reliability,” Ducloux emphasizes. “Future challenges focus on reducing the energy footprint and increasing production capacity.
In this respect, Mattei is already at the core of future strategies, with the possibility of adding another large compressor by 2027.”

In conclusion, the collaboration between Mattei and the client has proven successful, delivering tangible benefits in terms of efficiency, reliability, and energy sustainability, strengthening Mattei’s role as a key technical partner in the food industry.
