POLYCAD: CLEAN AND EFFICIENT COMPRESSED AIR FOR THE FOOD INDUSTRY

Written by Ing. Enea Mattei S.p.A. | 16 June 2021

By using rotary vane technology, this Israeli company can save energy whilst maintaining high productivity levels and has succeeded in carving out a prestigious place for itself in the domestic market.

Working in the plastic packaging solutions for food industry requires cleanliness and precision. It’s a world governed by strict rules, where the margin of error is infinitesimal because public health is at stake. In such a context where it is essential to avoid any contamination, the fact that a company in the sector uses Mattei compressors with the correct filtration system cannot fail to go unnoticed. The company in question, Polycad, was founded in 1972 in Kibbutz Shefayim in the heart of Israel. With almost 50 years of building up a wealth of knowledge and skills it is now one of the country’s leading players in the area of plastic packaging for both the food and cosmetics industries.

“Our company is ISO22000 certified and adheres to all legal regulations, as well as implementing a HACCP programme ensuring we meet every single food safety requirement to the highest degree” explains Nir Hadar, Vice President of R&D Engineering at Polycad, whose responsibility is to ensure that processes and production lines are as advanced and efficient as possible. “This is precisely why our choice was for Mattei machines which also boast exceptionally high-quality standards”.

Compressed air is a fundamental element for the activities of Polycad: “The majority of our products are produced using blow moulding technology” explains Nir Hadar, “and so in addition to plastic production we also focus on the production of compressed air. That’s why all of our main compressors are produced by Mattei. Our objective, which is also reflected in our choice of production equipment, is to always be environmentally friendly; not polluting and avoiding energy waste, to contribute to a more sustainable world”.

How? The answer was simple: “We carefully monitor the energy efficiency of our compressors in terms of energy consumed per kilogram of plastic used” responds Hadar. “This is our motivation for using Mattei compressors, which with their efficiency and high reliability, allow us to save energy whilst maintaining high levels of productivity. And after sharing the last 15 years of company history, we will continue to rely on the innovative “rotary vane technology crafted into Mattei brand air compressors for a long time to come”.

In short you don’t change a winning formula, and it is no coincidence that there is a distributor, Techno-Av, who knows a fair bit about compressors: “At the end of the 90s our company built and produced compressors on its own”, recalls Shlomo Hibel, CEO of the Israeli company, “or at least we did until our market changed with the arrival of machines from the developing world, which were characterised by low prices, but also by very poor quality”. It was then in 1999 that Hibel decided to look towards Europe for a manufacturer able to offer a high-quality product, and it was then he came across family-owned Mattei: “From the very first day we established a relationship based on trust and professionalism”, he continues, “and this relationship, combined with the uniqueness of the Mattei rotary vane technology, has helped to give these products a special place in the hearts of local companies who use compressors”.
