MATTEI DIVISIONS: AN EFFICIENT ORGANIZATION

From Sales & Products Manager to Global Marketing Manager: Bill Kennedy joined Mattei in 2008 and is now Global Marketing Manager.

Working with the Milan-based Marketing Team, he supports all six divisions of the Mattei Group as well as all subsidiaries. He also supports the US sales team.

Bill aligns and positions the global Mattei organization and products. Mattei, headquartered in Vimodrone, Italy, exports to over 100 countries and manufactures 6500 compressors yearly. The company owns 17 international patents and has branches in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, China, and Germany.

“To better manage the organizational and logistical flow, Mattei has restructured into solutions-focused divisions:

The Industrial Division supplies stationary rotary vane air compressors to the manufacturing and process industries; The Rail & Transportation Division provides compressors to the OEM transport industries including train, bus, and electric vehicle manufacturers; the Mattei On-Vehicle Energy (MOVE) Solutions Division provides precision-outfitting of power systems into service vans and trucks up to 30 tons in size. The OEM Air Compressor Division provides air compressor packages to specialized OEM applications. A hallmark of our firm is a unitized package incorporating all components in one compact integrated system. The OEM Gas Compressor Division focuses on biogas and natural gas applications. Last, but not least, the Global Aftersales Division manages all post-sale activities, such as the provision of parts, lubricants and service”.

Among the application-specific iterations of Mattei's compressors, the Aluminum Smelting Air Compressor Division is the sixth division. “It encompasses custom rotary vane air compressors whose inherent durability is able to withstand a very hostile application with high ambient temperatures, 24/7 year-round operation and a harsh operating environment”, points out Kennedy. Within the Americas, the province of Quebec, Canada, holds the lion’s share of the global aluminum smelting market.

Kennedy has no doubt about the reasons for Mattei’s success is its exclusive rotary vane technology, which guarantees a significantly lower life cycle cost than the competition, and in the high reliability, design and distinctive innovations such as the suite of Xtreme Technologies heralded by the new RVX family of variable speed, standard, and high-performance fixed-speed compressors.

T9_Pagina settori_ROTORE“Single-rotor vane compressors are engineered using the same basic materials of construction for the rotor, the stator and the vanes or blades. This compatibility is what drove Mattei’s vision to eliminate wear from the compression process in making its compressors virtually wear-free. Wear is the result of the softer of two dissimilar metals being abraded when rubbed together. In using compatible metal for the rotor, stator and blades, wear is eliminated. Instead, there is a microscopic transfer of material that mates the adjacent surfaces in creating a better seal that reduces friction and improves overall system efficiency over time.

Vane technology is 100% devoid of axial thrust forces. From suction to discharge, the pressure is always perfectly balanced, as it is equal across the length of the pump”.
The innate advantages of vane designs are amplified by constant innovations made by Mattei. A true quantum leap occurred with the creation and deployment of Xtreme technology.

“In 2021, Mattei patented XTREME Injection Technology® which significantly raised the energy efficiency bar where deployed.
XTREME Injection Technology® begins with the use of fluid atomization nozzles that create a cone shaped cloud of super fine lubricant fog that makes it possible to reduce the amount of lubricant used in the compression process in optimizing energy efficiency”.

Freshly-patented Xtreme Injection Technology® is just one of the latest advancements in new Xtreme technologies.  Xtreme Oil Recovery Technology reduces energy consumption and maintenance requirements while improving efficiency, Xtreme Thermal Management Technology (XYMT) harmonizes the opening of the thermostatic valve with the fan rotation speed, all managed by Xtreme Communications Technology thanks to the IoT 4.0 Maestro XC controller, that allows for remote monitoring and management of machines from anywhere in the world.

Low maintenance costs and high energy efficiency are two key elements that guarantee a lower life cycle cost for Mattei compressor users.

This is a huge distinctive advantage. We emphasize the low life cycle costs of our durable rotary vane technology – and increase awareness of the high costs associates with airend overhauls of other positive displacement air compressor technologies. Nobody wants to pay more for a product than they must. The value of many items is determined by the purchase price, but not so with air compressors. Yes, the purchase price is important but that only represents the “entry fee” to having a compressor. Your life cycle costs are divided into four (4) categories:

“First is the purchase price as it equates to about 10% of the total cost of owning and operating an air compressor.  The second is the cost of electricity to power and run the compressor, which reflects approximately 80%, followed by basic ordinary maintenance, which equates to roughly 10%. If you opt for a screw instead of a Mattei vane compressor, you have to consider the cost of an airend overhaul for the air compressor that can easily exceed 50% of the initial purchase price of the compressor. This is a non-event for a Mattei.

Thanks to the rotary vane design and to its energy efficiency, Mattei compressors are more advantageous than screw compressors because they guarantee a saving in the most relevant costs: the energy costs – and eliminate the costs associated with an airend overhaul”.
