The company manufactures railway cranes and excavators, railway flash butt welders in compliance with EN 14587 standards, track replacement and laying systems, hydraulic lifts and loading systems, radio-controlled locomotives, tamping systems, track motor cars, dresines for maintenance, line diagnostic systems and rail trolleys. These are machines and systems that have power, mechanical precision, reliability and working capacity as their strong points.
For two years now Vaia Car has been working closely with Mattei: “We are an innovative company that focuses on research and development. We’ve switched from reciprocating compressors to rotary vane technology as we found Mattei to be very interesting and from the data we have gathered, the compressors perform better. What’s more the quality of service is very high”.
At present Mattei compressors are installed on the most powerful machines “because they guarantee better comfort and greater efficiency”, but their aim in the near future “is to utilise Mattei compressors on the rest of our range of machinery”.
It was the efficiency of the compressors that convinced Vaia Car in the first place. But that’s not all: “We were impressed by the company’s reliability and approach. Vaia Car is a company with a history. Founded in 1962 byCommander Bruno Vaia, Davide’s father, in the historic centre of Calvisano as a one-man business specialising in the production of loaders and agricultural excavators. The rapid development of the company forced the entrepreneur to expand the production site and transfer the headquarters. Vaia Car became a European leader in the sector, not least because of the technological innovations it proposed, which led to the production of self-propelled industrial machines. In 1972 Vaia Car renewed its image and began producing machinery and equipment for the maintenance and construction of railway lines.
Since then, the company has experienced constant growth and continuous technological updating, as demonstrated by the numerous certifications obtained: ISO9001 with TUV and ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001 – 2007. This is also testimony to their focused efforts towards stewardship of the environment and to the health and well-being of their personnel.
To respond to changing market needs, in 2010 Vaia Car became a group: “New Sorema ferroviaria S.p.A. has joined our group”, explains Davide Vaia, “making a significant contribution as a leading company in the field of machinery for the construction and maintenance of railway lines. The company also stood out to us because of its proven experience in designing bespoke machines capable of responding to an ever-evolving market”.
Vaia Car has also risen to the challenges of Industry 4.0 and now has over 90 employees and production site extending over 35,000 square metres. It also has overcome the death of its founder and is now firmly in the hands of his son Davide.
“The market is responding well. The quality of our products Made in Italy are appreciated, so I am optimistic for the future”, concludes Davide Vaia. “The only problem, especially for machines with such a long production cycle as ours is the increase in raw material costs, where we’ve seen lots of speculation, which complicates our negotiations with the end customer. But I remain convinced that quality always pays for itself”.
