MATTEI COMPRESSORS: BUILT TO LAST

Mattei compressors are designed from the outset as reliable machines manufactured with durable materials and advanced technology.

The technical construction of Mattei rotary vane compressors contributes to greatly reducing the impact of maintenance on the product’s Life Cycle Cost. In fact, in rotary vane compressors there are no roller bearings and thrust bearings and therefore no need for airend overhaul maintenance to replace these components.

The care taken in the construction of the compressors then ensures the original vanes never need to be replaced as well as lifetime-rated white metal bushings instead of bearings. This allows Mattei to confidently offer a maintenance contract of up to 60 months at no extra cost to customers.

The compressor is a complex machine”, explains Fabio Farneti, Head of After Sales Service for the Mattei Group, “yet what makes the difference in routine maintenance is the ability to take care of the machine, as a system that interacts with the environment in which it works, and not just as a piece of machinery assembled with quality components”.

Each Mattei compressor comes with its own maintenance card, each family of machines has a series of maintenance kits specifically created with the aim of simplifying maintenance for technicians who intervene directly in the field to replace all those parts typically subject to consumption or wear over time. Based on the general indications provided by Mattei, the service network manages maintenance based on their local knowledge of the territory and the companies operating there.

Maintenance carried out according to the intervals specified in the Manufacturer’s manuals, using original spare parts, guarantees the perfect operation of the machine, without any loss of efficiency or to declared energy consumption levels. The reliability of the Mattei product range and correct maintenance are the foundations on which Mattei has built its extended warranty.

Mattei entrusts maintenance operations for its end customers to its network of Authorised distributors and workshops. As a company, we commit our energies and resources to the continuous periodic training of specialised technicians within the distributors and, when required in certain cases, also to the end customers. Training is one of the pillars on which our deep-rooted partnership with distributors is based. The Covid emergency has, through necessity, given us the idea of moving away from only doing face-to-face training. We have carried out several online webinars, always modifying and further optimising the training course as we adapt to this new medium. When it is not practical to rely on the web, if conditions allow, we continue to run courses at the distributor’s premises. The courses we offer develop the practical skills and know-how of the technicians, but above all we emphasise the concept that the compressor is not only “a machine or a system”, but also that it interacts constantly with its environment.

Working alongside the customer to support them in the installation of their machines can also ensure better compressor operations and further reduce maintenance costs. “Our simulations and the data collected and processed have shown that if the compressors operate in an environment appropriate to the size of the machine, that is well ventilated and compartmentalised with respect to the production areas, then maintenance intervals remain constant over time as does the performance of the Mattei compressor, without an increase in the complexity of the maintenance level over time. So, we’ve moved away from the concept of “overhaul”, which is commonly applied to screw compressors. When you factor this into the Life Cycle Cost it makes a huge economic difference to the overall cost of running the machine over its lifetime and makes the rotary vane compressors clearly stand out from their “screw counterparts”.

Insieme_Controllori_XCThe latest frontier that Mattei has firmly moved into during 2020, is condition monitoring of machines in the field. This has been possible thanks to the introduction of a new generation controller alongside the launch of the new RVXi models. The new IoT Industry 4.0 rated controller, called Maestro XC, gives the end customer the ability to “monitor” their machine. But above all, it allows the distributor to keep an eye on all machines in the field, that are connected, and to take preventive action, having agreed with the customer an opportune moment for the maintenance, should information received from the Maestro XC controller indicate a machine trend that needs to be corrected.

This “predictive” approach allows the distributor to optimise maintenance operations both in terms of time taken and the end customer’s satisfaction for whom any downtime always has economic repercussions on the production chain. Mattei makes its team of experts available through this condition monitoring to also support the distributor in real-time in dealing with an intervention and to resolve it in the best possible way.

An innovation once again at the service of customers that can “make the difference”.

LUXFER GAS CYLINDERS

Compressed air is vital for industry as it drives many production facilities and pieces of equipment. Its use is responsible for more than 10% of industrial energy consumption, meaning the choice of compressor becomes essential when looking to maintain control of energy costs. The English company Luxfer Gas Cylinders is an excellent example of obtaining efficiency in this regard.
